For the fourth year in a row, multinational corporation Aon plc specialists in risk management, insurance and HR solutions chose Lane End to launch their Early Careers Development programme.
Aon recruits approximately 80 college graduates a year. To mark the start of their 18-month formal development programme graduates attend a three-day residential induction course.
To help the graduate team to get to know each other and Aon’s business and culture, a key element of the induction programme involves a series of stimulating physical and mental team building activities.
THE VENUE BRIEF
To deliver the induction programme effectively, Aon was looking for a conference venue that was close to London, had spacious grounds and provided professional team building events and facilities.
For the teaching element of the programme, the venue also needed to offer large conference rooms and meeting spaces, as well as on-site overnight accommodation for up to 90 people.
Just 30 miles from London, Lane End Conference Centre offered the ideal combination of location and services for Aon’s graduate induction.
As well as housing 20 dedicated experiential learning activities in its grounds, Lane End works in partnership with Hi5 Events, a leading supplier of experiential learning events.
As such, Hi5 Events were able to develop a team building programme perfectly in line with Aon’s training objectives.
On day one, participants took part in a series of energetic, physical team building exercises in the fresh air, including the low ropes and a sort and rebuild challenge, to help foster trust and rapport between team members.
On day two, Aon’s inductees were given the fun yet challenging task of generating a newspaper. The idea behind this challenge worked on two levels firstly, allowing participants to exercise their project management and team working skills and secondly, encouraging them to get to know the key elements of Aon’s business.
Lane End also offered Aon complete privacy by providing exclusive use of its self-contained conference building The Pavilion a modern, bright conference hall with capacity for 150 people, three break-out rooms and separate dining room.
Lane End’s modern conference facilities are also complemented by 100 en-suite bedrooms and diverse range of leisure facilities. This includes the new Cedar Club a fully equipped gym, sauna, steam room, games room, café and bar.
Aon’s event organiser said: “We chose Lane End Conference Centre for three reasons; it meets our long list of venue criteria, is consistently friendly and accommodating and offers competitive rates.
“Aon have returned to Lane End for the past four years and have always found the staff supportive and organised and find the space works very well for our requirements.
“In addition, the new sports area, bar and recently refurbished bedrooms are a great asset to the venue, we will definitely be returning to Lane End in the future.”
