A young chef mentored by Lane End Conference Centre’s Head Chef Mike Day has made it to the quarter-finals of ‘MasterChef: The Professionals’.
Steven Edwards - who was tutored by Mike at the Corus Hotels Chefs’ School in 2003 - has been selected as one of the six best chefs in the cookery competition.
Steven, 26, will be put through his culinary paces again this week to compete for one of two places in the nerve-racking MasterChef semi-final.

Mike, who masterminds all our specialist conference catering at Lane End, said: “I mentored Steven when he was 17-years old. His parents are both in catering and watching Jamie Oliver’s programme ‘Jamie’s Kitchen’ inspired him to take the plunge.
“Steven was a very committed and talented trainee; it is great to see him in making his mark in the MasterChef quarter-finals. I will definitely be tuning in to watch his progress.”
MasterChef: The Professionals is on BBC2 Monday to Thursday at 8.30pm.
All the team at Lane End Conference Centre wish Steven well in the next stage of the competition.
Whipping future top chefs into shape is just one of Mike’s many talents.
During his career he has held senior posts at the 4 star Burnham Beeches Hotel and Sheraton Skyline. He has also won awards for his creative catering, including runner-up in the coveted national Chef of the Year competition.
